Millton Wines at Table Hurst Farm

07.06.2019

We recently had the privilege to accompany the brilliant James Millton on a pilgrimage to Table Hurst Farm in Kent to learn more about the practice and theory of biodynamics. Hosted by Bibendum Wine it was a wonderful day soaking up the philosophy of the movement, mixing preparations for the fields and tasting the fruits of their considerable labours.

Millton is a pioneer in the field and has been practicing biodynamics in New Zealand since 1984, making them the first winery in the country to whole heartedly embrace the philosophy. Happily the wines produced are also astonishingly complex, terrior driven and delicious. Appearing on the som saa list in the coming weeks is the Opou Vineyard Riesling - a terrific off dry wine with luscious hints of honey and smoke; a fantastic match for the food.

It was an eye-opening experience, and informed a lot of thought and discussion on our relationship to food and drink, the future of the industry and sustainability in all fields. We can't recommend a visit to the farm more highly - a beautiful place full of lovely people only a short hour on the train away.

Bibendum have put together an amazing video of the day which you watch by clicking the link below.
